In English this week, we read the poem, ‘A Small Dragon’ by Brian Patten. We investigated the poem’s vocabulary and focussed on how adjectives are used to describe nouns, and we added description to our own ideas with prepositional phrases. We then started to write our own free-verse poems with the same structure and style. Next week, we will be editing and improving our poems and presenting them to read aloud in class.
This week in Maths, we have been applying our knowledge of column addition and column subtraction, in order to add and subtract with sets of numbers up to 4 digits long. We revised our knowledge of the words ‘added, sum, minuend, subtrahend and difference’ and used these words to help us with our calculations. We focused on lining up our digits accurately in their columns in order to reach the correct answer. We have continued to work hard on our 4 times tables and after half term, will be progressing on to our 8s. Next week, we will be learning all about perimeter, what it is, and how to calculate the perimeter of a range of shapes.
This week in Art, we have started to create our final pieces in the style of Henri Rousseau. We used 5 different colours of paints to create our jungle backgrounds, mixing them together to create different shades of green. We also learned the ‘sgraffito’ technique in order to add detail to our work. This is a technique which involves turning the paintbrush around and scratching through a top layer of wet paint in order to reveal a contrasting colour underneath.
We also very much enjoyed our trip to Adeyfield for Cross Country today! Well done to everyone for taking part with such enthusiasm!
Have a great weekend, everyone!
