Welcome to Year 3! We hope you had a great summer and are looking forward to an exciting new start in Junior school. It has been great to have these two days to get to know your children, settle them in and make sure that any worries have been discussed and have now, disappeared.
Next week we will begin our first full week of learning. In English we will be reading poems, focusing specifically on the structure and style of ‘free verse poems.’ We will create a whole class poem, based on nature. I’m sure that the children have already mentioned our little nature walk to gather resources to support our imagination and vocabulary.
Later in the week, the children will be writing their own ‘free verse poem’ based on something or someone they love. It would be great if you could either email or send in a picture of their object eg mum, dad, their dog, granny, or even their favourite football player on Monday.
In maths next week, we will be learning how to add three numbers together. We will then develop our learning of mathematical vocabulary; understanding that the order of the addends does not change the sum. After this we will learn to combine addends to ten, when adding three numbers. For those of you who are now panicking, eg. 2 + 3 + 5 = 10. (addend plus addend equals sum). We will finish the week learning how to use the ‘make ten’ strategy for addends that bridge ten.
In Art lessons, we will be learning about cave art. We will be researching: What media was used for cave art? What were the paintings of? Who painted them? Where were cave paintings found? When did they start painting them? We are all very excited about this.
In Science next week, we will begin the lesson by sharing what we already know about plants. We will be learning about the functions of different parts of plants.
In RE we will be learning about the basic beliefs of the Muslim and Christian faith.
That is it for this week. We hope you have a lovely weekend.
