We have had a very busy and fun week in the first week of our final half-term!

In Mathematics we have been investigating spirals. We found out that they are very common in nature and this continues to inspire humans to create spirals in their own designs. We found out that spirals in nature are 'golden spirals' and follow the spiral pattern discovered by Fibonacci. We found out about the Fibonacci sequence and drew a Fibonacci spiral. We then created Archimedes and Baravelle spirals.

In English, we started work on a new book, 'Odd and the Frost Giants' which is based on Norse mythology and follows the adventures of Odd and his friends: an eagle, a fox and a bear (really Thor, Loki and Odin) to defeat the Frost Giants who have taken over Asgard and created a never-ending winter. We started by looking at the descriptive devices used in the text and the atmosphere they help create.

In History this week, we had our Maya day delivered by the Mexicolore team, who brought lots of amazing artefacts from Mexico and Central America to help us learn more about the Mayan civilisation. We wore Maya costumes, played Maya instruments and learnt how to chant like the Maya. We found out what they believed, what they ate and how they lived their lives.

We have also started rehearsing for our end of year play, 'The Pirates of the Curry Bean', which will be performed to our families on the 15th July (1.30pm) and 16th July (6pm) and welcomed back Mr Eccles who will be with us each week as we continue to refine our skills in music, notably our cornet playing.

Next week in Mathematics, we are going to learn about rotational symmetry and tessellations, and in Englis, we will be writing descriptions of Odd and his heroic journey. We will also be continuing with our learning across the broader curriculum.

Have a lovely weekend, we look forward to seeing you on Monday.
