    Cobalt 2024-25

Welcome to Year 4 and Team Cobalt

Your teachers are Mrs Holman & Mrs Bonner

Your teaching assistants are Mrs Pullen & Mrs Hajzeri

We welcomed Year 4 back with a fantastic trip to the Bhaktivedanta Manor. We enjoyed a very authentic and immersive experience, learning first-hand about Hinduism tradition. The children attended a live Hindu ceremony and were enriched with dressing up in traditional costume. We also experienced traditional face painting and enjoyed a very delicious Hindu lunch. We cannot wait to look back at the photos and reminisce on what was such a fantastic day!

In English this week, we enjoyed reading and solving riddles, and learnt the features of this type of poem. We then learnt some interesting facts about apples and used them to write ‘I am’ lines, the ordered them to write a poem of our own. Next we, we are investigating the features of persuasive writing, before gathering information to write our own persuasive letters. Our inspiration will come from the books, ‘Malala’s Magic Pencil’ by Malala Yousafzai & illustrated by Kerascoet and ‘Greta and the Giants’ by Zoe Tucker and Zoe Persico.

In History this half term, we are looking forward to learning that the first Olympic Games were held in Ancient Greece, and comparing them to how the Olympics are run in the modern day. We will also explore some other major achievements of the Ancient Greek civilization.

In Music, we have continued to practice our Electric Umbrella songs and are very much looking forward to singing them with other schools when we visit St. Albans Cathedral in a couple of weeks time!

In PSHE this week, we began our new topic, 'Changing Me.' Today was about 'Unique Me.' We discussed how characteristics often come from our parents. However, they can also come from other relatives too. We thought about the characteristics that come from our own family members and wrote these down inside a gingerbread man. The parts of the gingerbread man we thought best suited our characteristics we used to recreate the gingerbread man all about ME.

In science, we started our new topic on ‘States of Matter.’ We began by sorting different items into groups of solids, liquids and gases. Then, we explored the properties of the different states and discovered how the particles are arranged to create either a liquid, solid or gas!
